Description

The Kent Conservation Advisory Committee was established as a volunteer organization to advise the Town Supervisor and the Town Board on conservation and environmental issues.

The Committee is composed of seven appointed members who recommend one of the members to serve as chairperson.

The Committee is committed to the identification, conservation, and enjoyment of the Town’s unique natural areas. We sponsor hikes, surveys, and the preservation of these natural areas. With the approval of the New York State DEC, we have restored the firetower on Mount Nimham for public use. With the approval of the New York City DEP, we have established a trail to Hawk Rock and are conducting preservation activities at the Mead Farm, a colonial homestead.Hawk RockWe conduct educational programs in the use of energy efficient technologies, modern advanced waste water treatment systems, and the reduction of waste volume. Some of the programs we have conducted include a GPS workshop, hikes to Hawk Rock and to Wonder Lake, presentations on the corbelled stone chambers of Kent, on solar home heating, and on the county Septic Maintenance Program.

The Kent CAC meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Kent Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public. We welcome nonmember assistance in our meetings and programs. For reasons such as weather, lack of quorum due to vacations and so on, meetings may be canceled or rescheduled. When this happens, notice is posted on the Town of Kent website calendar page.

For other information about the CAC or its activities please contact the CAC Chair, Bill Volckmann or visit the CAC's information website, kentcac.info.
