—Kent residents can now easily convert to solar energy without solar panels through the Kent Community Solar Program—

The Solarize Kent program, which has been unanimously endorsed by the Kent Town Board, allows residents to power their homes with solar energy without installing solar panels. This program is part of Solarize Putnam, which is being offered throughout Putnam County by Sustainable Putnam under the auspices of NYSERDA (or New York State Energy Research and Development Authority).

Several other Putnam County towns have already joined the program. If there is sufficient participation in Kent, the Town will receive a $5000 grant.

Solarize Kent allows residents to purchase solar electricity through NYSEG at a rate reduction of up to 10%. The solar electricity comes from regional solar farms. This a volunteer "opt-in" program. There is no fee to enroll and no penalty to terminate any time.  You will receive a $100 bonus gift card for enrolling, and the town may receive an additional $100 as well.

You have a choice of suppliers.

Powermarket, the supplier currently being used by Sustainable Putnam, has capacity for new residential customers with no waiting period,  They are offering a $100 sign-up bonus for new customers and also are giving the Town $100 per sign-up. They have integrated their billing with NYSEG, but the bill comes from Powermarket rather than NYSEG.  To enroll with Powermarket, go to the Solarize Putnam website,  https://sustainableputnam.org/solarize-putnam/  and click the link for Kent.

Ampion, the supplier originally endorsed by Sustainable Putnam, is nearing full capacity for residential customers.  If you enroll, there may be a delay of several weeks before your account is assigned to a solar farm. Ampion is offering a $100 sign-up bonus to new customers but is no longer giving any additional funds to the Town. Ampion’s billing is integrated so that your savings will appear as solar credits on your regular NYSEG bill. To enroll with Ampion, click this link: https://ampion.net/kentny
